Towel row

Sit with a towel around your feet and pull hard: a back exercise that needs no wall, door or bar.

A towel

How to do it

  1. 1 Sit with your legs straight and loop a towel around the soles of your feet, holding an end in each hand.
  2. 2 Lean back a little and pull your elbows back past your ribs, squeezing your shoulder blades together.
  3. 3 Push against the towel with your feet so the pull is hard all the way. Hold 2 seconds, then release.

Watch out for

  • Pulling with the arms only
  • Rounding the back
