Privacy
Short version: nothing you enter ever leaves your browser, and we collect no personal data. We only count page views, anonymously, and you can switch even that off.
What happens to what you type
Your profile, plan, weigh-ins, food diary, saved meals, training, body measurements, health
diary, preferences and weekly reflections are saved in your browser's localStorage under keys starting with ethereal:. Progress photos
are stored in the browser's IndexedDB database named ethereal-photos,
compressed on your device. None of it is ever sent to us or to anyone else; there is no
account and no server that could receive it.
You can export everything as a JSON backup, import it on another device, and delete all of it in one tap from Settings → Delete all my data, which also removes the photos. Clearing site data in your browser does the same.
Barcodes and product search
When you scan a barcode or search packaged products, your browser asks Open Food Facts , a non-profit open database, for that barcode or search text directly. Their servers see the request like any website you visit; nothing about you, your diary or your profile is included. The built-in database of 1,400+ foods and all 66 recipes work without any network at all.
Location, prayer times and voice
Prayer times are calculated on your device from the sun's position. If you choose Use my location, your browser asks your permission, and the position is rounded to about a kilometre and kept only on this device. Picking a city from the list shares nothing.
The Speak button uses your browser's own speech recognition. Some browsers (Chrome among them) send the audio to their maker's speech service to turn it into text, under that company's privacy terms; Ethereal itself never receives it. Typing works just as well.
Importing from other apps
CSV files you import from MyFitnessPal, Lose It!, Cronometer or a spreadsheet are read in your browser and written to the same local storage. The file is never uploaded.
Sharing
Progress and weekly cards are rendered on your device and handed to your phone's share sheet or downloaded. A shared plan link encodes your plan settings in the link itself; only the people you send it to can read it, and it never includes weigh-ins or diary entries.
Cookies and tracking
The site sets no cookies and loads no advertising or social-media scripts. Fonts are self-hosted, so no font service sees your visit.
Anonymous page counts
To learn which pages and tools help people, the site counts page views with GoatCounter , an open-source service that uses no cookies and does not store IP addresses. For each page you open, your browser sends the page's address and title, the site that linked you here (its domain only), and your screen size. GoatCounter works out the browser, operating system and country from the request, and nothing else.
Nothing you type, log, weigh or photograph is ever included, and there is no identifier that could follow you from one page or day to the next. Counting is off when your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, and you can switch it off in Settings → Anonymous page counts.
Hosting logs
Like every website, the hosting provider that serves these files may keep standard, short-lived server logs (IP address, requested page, browser type) for security and capacity planning. We do not access or analyse them for anything else.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the update will be recorded on this page with the date. Last updated: 1 November 2026.
